Chris Wall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chris Wall (born 1953 in Newport Beach , California ) is an American country singer and songwriter.

Beginnings

Chris spent the summer months of his childhood on his uncle's ranch. He took part in rodeo tournaments early on, but then decided to pursue a career as an American football player. He was so talented that he received a college scholarship. Musically influenced by his father, who once worked with Bob Nolan , he began to write songs about cowboy life and rodeos.

Career

He later moved to Montana , where he worked on a ranch. Country singer Jerry Jeff Walker became aware of the young talent in 1988 and recorded some of his songs. Chris Wall worked with Walker for more than five years but also initiated his solo career. In 1990 Honky Tonk Heart was produced, which, like the following albums, mainly dealt with cowboy themes.

He was also successful as a songwriter. In 1994, Confederate Railroad reached number five on the country charts with its Trashy Women . This song also earned him a Grammy nomination. During these years he had difficulties getting a new record deal. On the spur of the moment, he founded his own label, Cold Spring Records , in 1994 . His next CDs were produced in-house and were successful. The label survived and more musicians were added.
