Bob Nolan , actually Clarence Robert Nobles , (born April 13, 1908 in Winnipeg , Manitoba , Canada , † June 16, 1980 in Newport Beach , California , USA ) was a Canadian country singer.

biography

Nolan was a founding member of the Sons of the Pioneers . Together with Leonard Slye (who later renamed himself Roy Rogers ) and Tim Spencer, the pioneer trio began in Los Angeles in 1933 . Other musicians joined the group, and the slip of the tongue of a radio announcer became the name Sons of the Pioneers in 1935 .

The nature-loving Nolan had the special talent to translate his feelings musically. He composed numerous songs, including the classics Cool Water and Tumbling Tumbleweeds, and is still considered one of the best songwriters to produce country music.

In 1979, a year before his death, Bob Nolan released the album The Sound of a Pioneer , in which he sings his old songs with an audibly waning voice. In Can You Hear Those Pioneers he tells of times gone by that are irretrievably gone, and in That Old Outlaw Time he deals with the approaching death. Here is the refrain:

I'll make a stand, go against any man and I'll beat his hand or he'll beat mine
but there is no way to win, no way to win against that old outlaw time

Nolan died on June 16, 1980. Following his request, his ashes were scattered in the Nevada desert .
