Christopher Barry Wood (born November 25, 1969 in Pasadena , California ) is an American musician. He is the bass / double bass player of the US jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood .

Life

Chris Wood studies composition , jazz and bass in Boulder, Colorado . From 1989 he attended the "New England Conservatory for Music" in Boston, where he studied with Dave Holland , Geri Allen and Bob Moses , among others . On a joint tour of Israel in 1990, Bob Moses introduced John Medeski and Wood to each other. In 1991 he went to New York, where he played in various free jazz and rock bands (including Marc Ribot , Elliott Sharp , Ned Rothenberg , John Zorn and Samm Bennett in his band “Chunk”). In the same year he founded the jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood together with John Medeski and Billy Martin .

In addition to his main band, Wood also plays in Marc Ribot's Radical Jewish Culture band “Shrek” as well as with the Wood Brothers , a blues / folk project with his brother Oliver Wood and with Karl Denson . The 2006 debut album Ways Not To Lose , produced by John Medeski, will be released by Blue Note Records .
