Christianity in Libya
The Christianity is in Libya a small religious minority.
Relations between Christians and Muslims in Libya are relatively peaceful. In the predominantly Islamic country, however, proselytizing Muslims is prohibited. A Christian man must become a Muslim if he is to marry an Islamic woman. Conversely, a Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish woman without her having to convert. Christian literature is limited.
Denominations
According to the World Christian Encyclopedia , the largest Christian group is Roman Catholicism , followed by Russian Orthodox and Serbian Orthodox Christians. There is an Anglican congregation in Tripoli that belongs to the Anglican-Egyptian diocese in Cairo . There are Coptic Orthodox and Greek Orthodox priests in Libya. The majority of Christians in Libya are Copts from Egypt .
Catholic Church
About 40,000 Roman Catholic people live in Libya. There are two bishops in Libya, one in Tripoli and one in Benghazi . There are Roman Catholic Vicariates Apostolic in Benghazi, Darna and Tripoli. There is an Apostolic Prefecture in Misrata . There are two Catholic churches in Libya, one in Tripoli and one in Benghazi.
