Christian Huber (politician, 1944)
Christian Johannes Huber (born July 9, 1944 in Zurich ; resident in Walenstadt SG and Pfäffikon ZH ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ).
biography
Christian Huber was born in Zurich, where he also attended schools. He completed his legal studies, which he completed as a working student, in 1973 and received his doctorate magna cum laude with the dissertation The cannabis-type narcotics - criminal law problems and legislative aspects . He then worked as a legal secretary at the Uster District Court . In 1974 he was appointed public prosecutor and in 1981 senior public prosecutor . In 1987 the canton council elected him as chief judge in the higher court of the canton of Zurich . In 1994 he took over the presidency of the jury . As such, he gained national fame because of his leadership in the “trial of the century” against the sex offender René Osterwalder.
From 1999 to 2005, Huber was a member of the government of the Canton of Zurich, where he headed the finance department. In 2003/2004 he was President of the Government of the Canton of Zurich. In spring 2005 he resigned from office due to differences with part of the party leadership.
Huber has been married since 1973 and has two adult children.
