Christian Kastrop (State Secretary)

Christian Kastrop (born November 28, 1959 in Hagen ) is a German economist . Since May 2020 he has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection

Life

Kastrop studied economics as well as economic and social psychology at the University of Cologne from 1978 to 1984 . Until 1989 he worked there as a research assistant and lecturer. From 1989 to 2014 he worked in the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF), most recently as a sub-department head. From 2006 to 2010 he was Vice President and President of the Economic Policy Committee (EPC) of the Council of European Finance and Economic Ministers ( ECOFIN ) and the ECOFIN Eurogroup .

After working at the BMF, he was Director of the Department for Economic and Financial Policy Studies at the OECD in Paris until 2017 , then Honorary Professor in Public Finance at the Free University of Berlin and from 2018 to 2020 Director of the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s European Future program . Kastrop has been a permanent state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection since May 2020 .
