Christian Lehmann (musicologist)

Christian Lehmann (born September 23, 1966 in Munich ) is a German musicologist and author.

Christian Lehmann studied biology, musicology, German and singing and received his doctorate from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. phil. majoring in musicology. To date, he has published specialist articles and book chapters, primarily on the biological basis of human musicality and the history and practice of classical singing. His popular science book The Genetic Clef, on the evolutionary origins and anthropological significance of music, has been translated into several languages. In 2016 Lehmann shot the TV documentary Lullaby and Battle Song for ARTE and Bavarian TV . In 2018 his biography about the singer Joseph Leoni , the namesake of the village Leoni on Lake Starnberg, was published.

Together with Wulf Schiefenhövel and other scientists from the former Max Planck Research Center for Human Ethology in Erling-Andechs, Lehmann founded the Ethology of the Arts (EthArts) working group in the Society for Anthropology (GfA). Christian Lehmann teaches as a lecturer at the Universities of Munich and Regensburg. He is also active as a singer and singing teacher.
