Christian Lohr (biologist)

Christian Lohr (born May 4, 1967 ) is a German biologist and professor of neurophysiology at the University of Hamburg .

Career

Lohr graduated from the University of Kaiserslautern with a diploma in biology in 1995. In 1998 he received his doctorate in the Department of General Zoology and continues his work until 2005 as a scientific assistant. From 1991 to 2001 he did research as a visiting scientist at the Arizona Research Laboratories in Tucson (Arizona) and received a grant from the German Research Foundation . In 2005 he completed his habilitation in zoology and neurobiology in Kaiserslautern. From 2005 to 2008 he worked as a private lecturer and research group leader for developmental neurobiology at the University of Kaiserslautern and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern . In 2008 he became head of the research group “Intracellular Calcium Dynamics” in the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research at the University of Münster . Christian Lohr has been Professor of Neurophysiology at the University of Hamburg since 2010. In 2012 and 2017/2018 he was a committee member for the establishment proposals of the priority program 1757 of the German Research Foundation and of the special research area 1328.

Research priorities

Lohr's research focuses on the functions of glial cells in neuronal excitation and synaptic transmission and the development of the nervous system, as well as the importance of glial cells in the blood-brain barrier and metabolic processes of the brain, neuromodulation through purinergic signaling, the importance of glial cells and purinergic signaling in multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis and neuronal information processing in the olfactory system.
