Christian Ludwig Frowein (* April 1698 in Elberfeld ; † May 1756 there ) was mayor of Elberfeld.

Life

Ludwig Frowein's family originally came from Elberfeld, but his great-grandfather Kaspar Frowein (1604–1668) had moved to Schwelm . Only after his grandmother Gertrud Esgen (1644–1677) inherited the Furter Hof on the Elberfeld side in 1671 did the family move back to Elberfeld. Ludwig Frowein's father David Friedrich Eustatius Frowein (1670–1744), born in Schwelm, married Anna Maria Teschemacher († 1698) from Unterbarmen , who died shortly after Ludwig was born.

Ludwig Frowein married Christina Siebel (1693–1775) on January 29, 1721, daughter of the mayor Anton Siebel from 1716 , with whom he had eight children, two of whom died in childhood. Frowein was first proposed but not elected mayor in 1738. In the following two years, i.e. 1739 and 1740, he was a member of the city council, as well as in 1746. He was then proposed again for the office of mayor in 1741 and 1748, but only actually elected in 1748. In 1749 he was city judge and then from 1753 to 1755 again in the council of the city of Elberfeld.
