Life

Christian Rehtanz studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund . From 1994 to 2000 he was a research assistant and research assistant at the Technical University of Dortmund . In 1997 he became a Dr.-Ing. With a thesis on energy storage systems to improve voltage stability in electrical energy transmission systems . PhD . He completed his habilitation in September 2002 at the ETH Zurich and acquired the venia legendi in the field of systems in electrical energy supply.

Rehtanz has worked at the ABB research center in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland, since 2000. In 2003 he moved to ABB's global Power Systems division as technology manager and member of the executive board . From 2005 to the beginning of 2007 he founded and headed the new ABB research center in China with locations in Beijing and Shanghai as director. Since March 2007 he has held the chair for energy systems and energy economics at the Technical University of Dortmund . Since September 2011 he has headed the newly founded ie 3 - Institute for Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics at the Technical University of Dortmund and is Dean of the Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology .

He is a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences , honorary professor of the Univ. of Queensland (Brisbane / Australia) and Adjunct Professor at Hunan Univ. (Changsha / China). Since 1991 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Angrivaria Dortmund.

Act

Christian Rehtanz's research interests lie in the field of energy transmission systems with a focus on the integration of new components such as B. power electronic network regulator and memory, the design and planning, as well as the information and control technology monitoring and control of energy networks. System-technical aspects including the energy market integration are in the foreground.

He is the author of more than 300 scientific publications, four books and 22 patents and patent applications.

During his time at ABB, he developed the basic design and algorithms for the first commercial wide-range measurement, control and protection system based on time-synchronized pointer measurements, for which he won the "World Top 100 Young Innovators Award 2003" from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT ) got.
