Christian Seyfried

Christian Seyfried (also Seyfrid or Seifried , born November 2, 1711 in Isny ; † April 7, 1783 in Kaufbeuren ) was a German Enlightenment , Latin rector in Biberach an der Riss and Protestant pastor in Kaufbeuren.

Life

Christian Seyfried was the son of the patrician Christoph Seifried (1676–1735) and Anna Maria Seifried, b. Köberlin. He studied theology at the University of Altdorf near Nuremberg . In 1736 he wrote his dissertation “Tentamen Historicum de Vita et Meritis Pauli Fagii ” under the chairmanship of Jakob Wilhelm Feuerlein .

Seyfried was the rector of the Latin school in Biberach and held parish positions in Biberach / Riß and Kaufbeuren. He stood in the tradition of the evangelical pastor dynasty of the von Seyfried.

Seyfried was a representative of theological rationalism . He published theological texts on the Enlightenment and Reformation , as well as some sermons. Together with his relative Anna Sibylla Reichsfreifrau von Garben, he increased the Seyfriedische Stiftungsbibliothek, which is still kept in Memmingen today, and the Seyfriedische Scholarship Foundation.
