Christian Watrin

Christian Watrin (born July 29, 1930 in Cologne ) is a German economist and retired holder of the chair for economic policy at the University of Cologne . From 2000 to 2002 he was President of the Mont Pelerin Society .

Life

Watrin studied economics at the University of Cologne and completed his studies with a degree in business administration and economics. In 1957 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD. He initially worked as a research assistant at the Alfred Müller-Armacks chair , the founding director of the Institute for Economic Policy . In 1963 he completed his habilitation.

He was initially offered a professorship at the Ruhr University in Bochum and in 1971 he held the chair for economic policy at the University of Cologne as Müller-Armack's successor. At the same time he became director of the Institute for Economic Policy and editor of the Journal for Economic Policy . In addition, he received numerous invitations as a visiting professor and fellow at universities abroad. In 1995 he retired .

Watrin was a co-signer of the Euro-critical manifesto The Monetary Policy Decisions of Maastricht: A Danger for Europe (1992).
