Christian Wolz (* 1967 in Berlin ) is a German vocal and performance artist and composer.

Life

Christian Wolz was born in Berlin in 1967. He developed his artistic training as an autodidact. His artistic activity began with photo projects. These projects were supported and accompanied by our own music productions. The work with the voice came more and more to the fore over the years, so that the artistic focus turned to the stage. He has appeared artistically in public since 1988. Its forms of representation are concerts, vocal performances, sound installations, radio plays, CD productions and multimedia performances. In addition to his solo performances and in-house productions, he also works with other musicians, choreographers and directors. Among other things, he writes compositions for dance pieces and theater productions. He had appearances and productions in Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Greece, England, Spain, Italy, Canada and New Zealand.

Since 2003 he has been teaching singing, handling and working with the voice, face-to-face training for musicians, performance and improvisation at theaters, music schools and universities.

In 2019 he finished his training as a voice therapist.

Wolz is married and lives in Berlin.

Wolz combines song and language with musical structures from medieval and non-European cultures. He also works with electroacoustic means; Original aids such as microphones and effects processors become independent instruments.

“... But we always hear vocal art of ludicrous virtuosity. Pure hissing sounds, soft tongue and mouth noises, everything becomes music. Christian Wolz manages to sing a note and to produce a noise at the same time with his voice and to process both via microphone and electronics into a sound experience that goes through the bone. In the academic music sector there has been no comparable job for a long time that is as well thought out and musically exciting ... "
