Christine Proust

Christine Proust is a French mathematician and science historian and cuneiform expert who studies mathematics in Mesopotamia .

Proust received her Agrégation in Mathematics in 1992 and her DEA in History of Science in 1999 from the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot). In 2004 she received her doctorate in the history of mathematics under Christian Houzel . 2010 habilitation they are. She is Research Director of the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) in the Sphere Group of the CNRS and the University of Paris VII. In 2010/11 she was at the Institut Méditeranéen de Recherches Avancées.

She studied mathematical cuneiform texts from Nippur in Istanbul and Jena from the early 2nd millennium BC, which she published in two volumes. She also deals with the estate of Otto Neugebauer (she was co-organizer of a colloquium on Neugebauer in New York in 2010) and published 322 on Plimpton .

With Agathe Keller (expert for mathematical Sanskrit texts at the Sphere Laboratory) she heads the project Mathematical Sciences in the Ancient World in the Middle East, financed by Karine Chemla's ERC Advanced Grant .

In 2009 she was at the Institute for Advanced Study and in 2009/10 at New York University .

In 2012 she received the Prix ​​Paul Doistau-Émile Blutet de l'Information Scientifique .
