Christine Schneider is a German TV journalist and presenter with a focus on agriculture at the Bayerischer Rundfunk .

Act

Schneider initially worked as a BR reporter on agricultural issues. Since 1998 she has been the editor in charge of the agricultural program Our Land , which she also moderated for many years, alternating with Florian Schrei . She is also the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Agriculture and Environment” department at Bayerischer Rundfunk.

She repeatedly dealt critically with agriculture and addressed aspects of sustainable management. After an interview she gave the BR-Rundschau about the nationwide farmers ' protests on October 22, 2019, the President of the Bavarian Farmers' Association , Walter Heidl , complained that Schneider was playing city against country. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung, Schneider made a connection between the high payments the EU made to farmers and demands for environmentally and animal-friendly agriculture. She also said that the farmers' association, which sees itself as the most important organization for farmers in Bavaria and Germany, had been surprised by the protests and that many farmers no longer felt they were properly represented by it. Shortly after the interview, a petition appeared on the internet portal change.org demanding the removal of Schneider as a member of the BR agriculture editorial team. The Bavarian Farmers' Association distanced itself from the petition. The station's information director, Thomas Hinrichs , announced that critical discussions about the program were important. The demand to "silence a critical BR journalist" goes too far and is not compatible with freedom of the press .
