Christmas Eve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christmas Eve is the name of a service that is celebrated in the Protestant church on the late evening of December 24th. After the big Christmas Eve services for children and families (see: Christvesper ), this is a more meditative service to end the day, often with a special church music design. It has the following texts:

  • Psalm: Ps 96 : 1–3.7–13  LUT
  • Reading from the Old Testament: Zech 2 : 14-17  LUT
  • Epistle: 1 Tim 3,16  LUT
  • Gospel: Lk 2,1-20  LUT

The celebration of Christmas Eve corresponds to the Catholic Christmas mass , but has no prominent position compared to the Christmas Vespers and the service on the morning of December 25th ( Christmas Festival I).
