Christoph Behrens

Christoph Behrens (born June 8, 1962 in Altena ) is a German social scientist and educational scientist as well as political advisor specializing in good governance , diversity management and gender mainstreaming . After working for the Schleswig-Holstein state government for many years, he has been working on a development cooperation project in Indonesia since 2006 .

The active shaping of social change in the age of globalization is also the focus of his socio-political engagement in the university, in the SPD , in various non-governmental organizations and most recently in particular for the North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church .

Scientific profile

Christoph Behrens completed a social and educational science degree at the Universities of Siegen and Braunschweig and dealt with new social movements in the Federal Republic of Germany in his master's thesis. After a long period of professional activity, he received his doctorate in 2005 in Kiel as an educational scientist (title of the dissertation: Social Pluralization and its Consequences for the Church. Since 2001, he leads a lecturer at the Institute of Education at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel courses on the basics of educational science, innovative educational concepts and recovery and analysis of empirical data, as well as issues of applied educational psychology, each with a focus on gender and diversity , by .

Christoph Behrens' research interests are focused on the tension between social change, gender relations, organizations and power, also from an international and comparative perspective, since 2004 with a special focus on Europe and Asia. In the context of diversity as a key phenomenon of late capitalism, he deals with modernization strategies in organizations (governments and parties, religious communities, universities and other educational institutions) and with the social discourses that are reflected in them.

Biographical data

Christoph Behrens attended school from 1968 to 1981, which he graduated from high school in 1981. He then did military service from 1981 to 1982 and began to study at Siegen (University of Applied Sciences) and Braunschweig (Technical University and College of Fine Arts) in 1982, from which he graduated in 1991 with a Magister Artium (MA) in Political Science and History. From 1989 to 1991 he was a research assistant at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel, from 1991 to 1992 managing director of Aids-Hilfe and from 1993 to 1997 scientific project manager in youth welfare. From 1997 to 2006 he worked as a consultant at the Schleswig-Holstein state government in Kiel and most recently at the Ministry of Education and Women. Since 2001 he has been working as a lecturer at the Institute for Education, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. Research stays followed in 2006 (National University Singapore, Hong Kong Institute for Education, Center for Women and Gender Studies, University of Indonesia, Depok) and since 2006 he has been a government advisor in Indonesia.
