Christoph Breuer (sports economist)

Christoph Breuer (* 1971 in Ludwigshafen ) is a German sports economist , sports sociologist and university professor .

Life

Breuer did his Abitur in Ludwigshafen and studied sports science, economics and education in Darmstadt . From 1996 Breuer worked at the Institute for Sports Sociology at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) as a research assistant, then as an assistant, and completed his doctoral thesis in 1999 and his habilitation in 2004 at the DSHS. In 2004, Breuer worked as a substitute professor for sports sociology and sports economics at the Technical University of Chemnitz , before returning to the DSHS that same year and taking up a professorship at the Institute for Sports Economics and Sports Management there. On May 1, 2006, he also became a research professor at the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin .

In his research, Breuer deals, among other things, with the topics of sport development and illuminates the situation of the sport clubs. Furthermore, he deals with the promotion of athletes in Germany, the controllability of sports regions, the social relevance of top-class sport in Germany, the system of social work in organized sport, issues of trend sports, the financing of sports facilities, the sporting commitment in the CV, the University sports, voluntary activities in clubs and management in sports organizations. In 2005, together with Ansgar Thiel , he published the first edition of the “Handbuch Sportmanagement”.
