Christoph H. Seibt

Christoph Heiner Seibt (born August 17, 1965 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and legal scholar.

He studied law and philosophy at the universities of Hamburg , Geneva , Singapore , Harvard University and Yale University . In 1993 he received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Yale Law School, in 1994 he was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. His dissertation on the subject of “Civil Law Compensation for Ecological Damage” was awarded the annual prize of the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld . He is a specialist lawyer for tax law .

Christoph Seibt has been a partner in the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer since 2000 . His work focuses on corporate law , capital market law , mergers & acquisitions , questions of corporate governance and tax law. He is a member of various supervisory boards, for example Otto Bock SE & Co. KGaA. Christoph Seibt has been publishing columns in the business magazine Manager-Magazin since 2012 . Since 2008 he has been an honorary professor at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Corporate and Capital Markets Law of the Bucerius Law School and board member of the “Foundation Institute for Corporate and Capital Markets Law”, which helps to finance the institute. In 2010 he was visiting professor at Kyoto University, Japan. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Hamburg financial center initiative and chairman of the advisory board of Hamburger Volksbank. Christoph Seibt is a judge at the Lawyers' Disciplinary Court of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

In addition to his job, Christoph Seibt is committed to the visual arts and is an art collector. Since 2003 he has been chairman of the board of the Bucerius Kunst Club, the sponsoring association of the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg. In spring 2008 he founded the “Society of Friends of Thomas Herbsts ”, a painter and co-founder of the Hamburg Art Club ; he is also chairman of the board there and published the catalog raisonné of Thomas Herbst's work in 2015. Christoph Seibt is also chairman of the board of the Kunstverein in Hamburg and the Hanne Darboven Foundation in Hamburg.

On December 9, 2018, an episode of NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, moderated by Janin Ullmann and filmed in the Kupferstichkabinett of the Hamburger Kunsthalle . In it, a previously unknown, unsigned oil study of two children, which was painted by Thomas Herbst and will be included in the new edition of his catalog raisonné, was discussed with the director of the 19th Century Gallery of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Markus Bertsch, and Christoph H. Seibt as a guest.
