Christoph König (Germanist)

Christoph König (* 1956 ) is a German German studies scholar and professor at the University of Osnabrück .

He studied philosophy, German and American studies at the University of Innsbruck and from 1986 to 2005 headed the department for research into the history of German studies at the German Literature Archive in Marbach . He is the editor of the "International Germanists Lexicon 1800–1950" and co-editor of the journal "Geschichte der Germanistik".

König completed his habilitation in 1997 in Berlin with Ernst Osterkamp . Since 2005 he has been professor for modern and newest German literature. In 2008/09 he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin .

König is known worldwide as a well-informed researcher of Rainer Maria Rilke when it comes to his manuscripts. At the University of Osnabrück he has been head of the “Arbeitsstelle Rilke” since 2018 and is preparing the first complete, critical and commented edition of all of Rilke's works.
