Friedrich Christoph Benjamin Schmidt (born May 2, 1803 in Erfurt ; † January 2, 1868 there ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

Christoph Schmidt was the grandson of the gardener Johann Christoph Schmidt (1753-1829) and took over the JC Schmidt company founded by his grandfather, in which he joined in 1828. This was initially just a subsidiary of a wax goods factory, but developed through the trade in plants and tubers as well as a bouquet binding company to an important company in the city of Erfurt, which became known worldwide as "Blumenschmidt". It was sufficient to address orders by letter with “Blumenschmidt Erfurt” so that they arrived. Christoph Schmidt developed the grandfather's company into a global company whose special culture was the dahlias , then called georgines.

Heinrich Schmidt (1841–1890) successfully continued his father's company. Ernst Müller, accepted as a partner in 1885, took over the company as sole owner after his death, but died in 1900. Müller's son, Alfred Müller, then continued the company with his brother-in-law Alfred Wentscher. In 1926 the company had to declare bankruptcy and merged as a subsidiary with the horticultural company Ernst Benary, which was also based in Erfurt .
