Christoph Schweigert (born October 7, 1966 in Heidelberg ) is a German mathematician and physicist.

Life

In 1987 Schweigert was the national winner in the federal mathematics competition . From 1987 he studied physics and mathematics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , where he obtained his diploma in theoretical physics in 1992. He then worked at the Dutch research institute NIKHEF in Amsterdam, where he received his doctorate in 1995 under Robbert Dijkgraaf (and Jürgen Fuchs ) ( Galois and simple current symmetries in conformal field theory ). In 1995/96 he was a post-doc at IHES , 1997/98 in the theory department of CERN , 1999 as senior assistant at ETH Zurich and from 1999 to 2002 Maitre de Conferences at the University of Paris VI , where he completed his habilitation in 2000. In 2002 he was professor at RWTH Aachen University and since 2003 he has been professor of mathematics at the University of Hamburg (Algebra and Number Theory Department and Center for Mathematical Physics).

Schweigert deals with mathematical physics (in the context of string theory , conformal field theory ), infinitely dimensional Lie algebras , vertex algebras and representation theory, tanning.

Schweigert was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. In 2006 he received the Gay Lussac Humboldt Prize . In 2008 he was invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematicians ( Bundle Gerbes and Surface Homology ) and in 2006 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid ( Categorification and correlation functions in conformal field theory , with Jürgen Fuchs, Ingo Runkel).

Among other things, he is co-editor of the Journal of Mathematical Physics (since 2006), of Letters in Mathematical Physics (since 2009) and of Communications in Mathematical Physics (since 2017). Since 2015 he has been the spokesperson for the graduate school "Mathematics inspired by string theory and quantum field theory" at the University of Hamburg.
