Christoph Wikus

Christoph Wikus (born January 5, 1948 - † May 2,  2016 ) was an Austrian sports journalist , rally driver and basketball coach .

Life

As a basketball coach, Wikus coached the first division club ABC Soma Vienna in the 1970s, with whom he also competed in the European Cup.

Together with his wife Barbara, Wikus built up the female division of the BC Vienna 87 basketball club, which was founded in 1987, and worked for the same club as a women's and girls' coach from 1993 to 2001.

Wikus took part in races in different countries as a rally driver, and in 2002 he published the book “Rallye, mein Abenteuer - PS-Fun on five continents”, a work about the motor sportsman Rudi Stohl , whose co-driver he was partly.

As a sports journalist, basketball, motor sports and boxing were among his areas of expertise. For more than 40 years he worked as a sports editor for the Kronen-Zeitung , from 2003 until he retired in 2013 he was the head of the newspaper's sports department. In August 2013, Wikus was honored by Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner for his “merits in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior”.

On May 2, 2016, Wikus died of cancer.
