Christopher Layer
Christopher Layer ( 12 November 1683 - 17 May 1723 ) was a Jacobite who served as a messenger for the attempted coup of the Jacobites under the direction of Bishop Francis Atterbury and was executed in 1723.
Just before the Jacobites could raise their troops in all parts of Great Britain, Robert Walpole had everyone arrested. Despite torture and illegal arrests, Walpole could only get the conviction of the Jacobite agent and messenger Christopher Layer, who was sentenced to death by hanging, disembowelling and quartering . His wife saw him executed in this way in Tyburn .
