Christophorus window in Landsberg am Lech

The Christophorus window is located in the parish church of the Assumption in Landsberg am Lech ( Bavaria ).

history

The lead glass window with the representation of St. Christopher was installed in the second glazing phase shortly after 1500. It has the field dimensions of approx. 49 cm high and 88 cm wide. In addition to the white blank glazing made of modern white slugs , the window consists of the original glazing. Franz Xaver Zettler restored the old windows of the church in 1898. During the restoration in the 1970s, the windows were given external protective glazing.

description

Christophorus carries the baby Jesus on his shoulders through the water. The child is holding a globe in his left hand. Christophorus supports himself with his right hand on a flowering stick, which, according to legend, he planted on the other bank, where the tree trunk then turned green again. At the lower right edge of the picture a small hermit can be seen shining a lantern for Christophorus. The water is depicted with fish and crabs and the banks rising to the left and right with stones and plants. Christophorus crosses the water with bare feet from left to right.
