The Christ Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Gleisdorf and parish church of the parish of Gleisdorf . She belongs to the Evangelical Superintendentur AB Steiermark

History and equipment

The design for the single-nave church building comes from Theodor Hager, the construction was carried out by the Gleisdorf master builder Paul Kirschner. Construction began in 1933; the church was consecrated on May 21, 1934 by the superintendent Johannes Heinzelmann and pastor Otto Bardy.

Because the current chancel was used as a mortuary chamber at that time, a new mortuary chamber and a Saktistei were added in 1953 - again under master builder Kirschner - and the old mortuary chamber was then converted into the new altar room. The pulpit also dates from this period. In 1955, at the end of the renovation work, a bell weighing 180 kilograms was consecrated to replace the bell that had been removed during World War II .

A quarter of a century later, in 1978 the Christ Church was renovated and the facade was painted again. The new sacristy was created from the death chamber, which was no longer needed. In the 1980s there were redesign measures, both with the church windows (1986) and with the redesign of the church facades on the occasion of the 60th anniversary (1989) of the parish of Weiz-Gleisdorf. From 2002, the interior was redesigned and other renovations took place in the following years.

Until the year 2000, the Gleisdorf Christ Church was the cemetery chapel and branch church of the Weiz parish, since then it has been the parish church of the then independent Gleisdorf parish.
