Christ Church Goslar

The Christ Church is the church of the Evangelical Free Church in Goslar . It goes back to the chapel of the Siechenhof , a leprosy hospital from the 13th century, which bore the patronage of St. Pankratius . The current building dates from 1750. The current pastor in the Christ Church is Dirk Zobel .

history

The Siechenhof was founded in the 13th century on the street that is still named after him today, a few hundred meters in front of the Breite Tor , as a hospital for " lepers ". The first documentary mention comes from 1265. Burchard von Berwinkel donated the chapel in 1295. The Pankratius patronage has been documented since 1334.

The hospital and chapel survived the Reformation and the Thirty Years War and continued to operate as a Lutheran institution for the sick and those in need of care.

In 1750 the chapel was demolished due to its dilapidation and replaced by the current building, a simple, rectangular hall church made of quarry stone masonry with a portal risalit and roof turrets . The medieval Pankratius bell came to the Goslar Klauskapelle in 1752 .

In 1870 the medieval foundation was dissolved, but nursing continued in the buildings. The chapel was also rebuilt for this purpose and no longer used for church services. After the Second World War , it was restored as a house of worship and has served the Evangelical Free Church ( Baptist ) community since 1951 .
