Order of Chrysanthemums
The Chrysanthemum Order ( Japanese 菊花 章 , Kikka-shō , literally: "Chrysanthemum Flower Order "), also Chrysanthemum Order or Gold Flower Order , is the highest Japanese order , which was founded by Emperor Meiji on December 27, 1876. The order of chrysanthemums with necklace followed in 1888 .
Explanation
The medal, which can also be awarded posthumously, consists of a star with 32 white enameled golden rays; in each of the four angles formed by shortening the rays there is a chrysanthemum between two green enamelled leaves. The red central shield with no inscription is surrounded by a gold ring. A chrysanthemum with the Japanese inscription "Sublime Deeds and Honorable Deeds" connects the top ray with a gold ring.
