The Chrysler by Chrysler is a luxury passenger car manufactured by Chrysler Australia from 1971 to 1976 . (Only the name Chrysler could be read on the car without any further model designation.)

Series CH

The first CH series Chrysler by Chrysler was introduced in November 1971 as the successor to the Chrysler VIP and competed with the Ford Fairlane and the Holden Statesman in the Australian luxury automobile market. There was a 4-door sedan and two-door hardtop - Coupe . The Chrysler was based on the VH Valiant , with it being built on the floor pan of the hardtop coupé. At 2921 mm, the wheelbase of the Chrysler corresponded to that of the Valiant hardtop coupé, 102 mm longer than that of the Valiant sedan. The Chrysler also differed significantly from the Valiant in its outward appearance; it had a front with double headlights, a radiator grille with a chrome frame and taillights that clung to the corners of the vehicle. The front view was clearly reminiscent of the 1971 US model Dodge Coronet . A long list of standard equipment also set the Chrysler apart from the Valiant: front disc brakes, power steering, a radio with push buttons and an electrically extendable antenna, carpeting in the trunk, tinted side windows with power windows, lights on the underside of the doors and reading lights for the rear seat passengers. Particular care was taken to reduce NVH using sound-absorbing material.

The car was powered as standard by a Chrysler Hemi six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 4343 cm³. On request, a V8 engine made in Australia with a displacement of 5899 cc could be ordered instead. In each case, a three-stage TorqueFlite automatic transmission from the USA was used.

Series CJ

A revised version of the Chrysler, Series CJ, appeared in May 1973, one month after the VJ Valiant . The design changes to the Chrysler were minimal. The CJ Chrysler was only built as a 4-door sedan, while the 2-door hardtop coupe continued to be delivered as a CH Chrysler.

Series CK

A revised CK Chrysler came out along with the VK Valiant in October 1975. Again, the changes were minor. The V8 engine was trimmed for higher performance and more economical consumption, but on July 1, 1976, this engine had to be replaced by a V8 with a displacement of 5211 cc due to stricter emissions regulations.

In October 1976 production of the CK Chrysler ceased when the CL series was introduced by Valiant and Regal . This model range included a Chrysler Regal SE Sedan (sedan), which ultimately replaced the Chrysler, although it did not have the longer wheelbase and better equipment of the Chrysler.
