Chuck Folds

Chuck Folds (* 4. May 1938 in Cambridge (Massachusetts) ) is an American jazz pianist of stride piano and swing .

biography

Chuck Folds played in Lou McGarity's band with Wild Bill Davison around 1970 and was best known for his collaboration with Doc Cheatham from 1972, with whom he performed until his death in 1997, regularly on Sundays at the New York jazz club Sweet Basil . He also worked on his 1992 Columbia album The Eighty-seven Years of Doc Cheatham . In the later years he recorded several solo albums for Arbors Records , which are in the Stride tradition of James P. Johnson and Fats Waller . In 1992 he played with Rick Fay ( Live at the State ); In 1997 he recorded a homage to Doc Cheatham with former Cheatham musicians, a. a. with trumpeter Spanky Davis .
