The Chyphotinae are a subfamily of the Bradynobaenidae within the hymenoptera (Hymenoptera). Of them about 55 species from the genus Chyphotes are known.

Their distribution is limited to North America. The males are winged while the females are wingless. Both sexes are mainly brownish in color and nocturnal. So far the only purpose looked kind Chyphotes Mojave , has in both sexes two closely spaced stridulating organs on the fourth abdominal segment . This distinguishes them from the Typhoctinae , which carry their two stridulation organs on the side. Almost nothing is known about their way of life.
