Cibao FC

Cibao Fútbol Club , shortened to Cibao FC , is a Dominican football club from the second largest city in the country, Santiago de los Caballeros .

history

founding

The club was founded in November 2014 to start in 2015 in the newly launched Liga Dominicana de Fútbol (LDF). Immediately after its establishment, an agreement was made with the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) to build a new sports facility on their premises, which will function both as a home ground ( Estadio Cibao FC ) and as a training location for young talents. The affiliated soccer school operates under the name Escuela de Tecnificación de la Fundación Real Madrid . In addition, a U-23 team called Cibao Atlético was founded as the B-Team , in which young talents can mature.

The first years

In the opening season of the LDF (2015) the club landed in fifth place and missed the play-offs, to which the first four places are entitled, only because of the direct comparison with the eventual runner-up Atlántico FC , against whom they are at home 2: 2 and lost 0-1 away.

In the following season (2016), Cibao FC finished second and reached the final against Barcelona Atlético , which was lost 3-1 despite a 1-0 lead (by Jonathan Faña in the 19th minute).

With the runner-up in 2016, Cibao qualified for participation in the CFU Club Championship , which the club won undefeated in 2017 and thus qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League 2018 . There, however, there was no chance against the Mexican representative Chivas Guadalajara , who lost 0: 2 and 0: 5 in the round of 16.

In the third year of the LDF (2017), Cibao FC closed the final table as leaders for the first time, but failed in the semi-finals (after two goalless encounters) on penalties against eventual champions Atlántico FC.

The Copa Dominicana , which has only been played twice so far, was won by Cibao in both seasons (2015 and 2016).
