CINARCHEA - Internationales Archeology-Film-Art Festival Kiel takes place every two years in Kiel since 1994 .

The organizer is the film working group of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in cooperation with the friends' association CINARCHEA eV and other partners of the Kiel cultural scene. The festival shows feature films and cartoons, documentaries, experimental films and artistic debates on the subject of archeology . The festival was initiated by the documentary filmmaker Kurt Denzer from Kiel .

“There is no limitation to an archaeological topic, for example to a certain cultural epoch, rather a comprehensive insight into the world of archaeological film should be given, which covers the various areas of research (excavation, restoration, conservation, experimental archeology, underwater and aerial archeology etc.) as well as the genres of the films (overview films, documentation of certain excavation and research projects, computer-animated reconstruction, feature films as well as animated and experimental films on the subject of archeology). Therefore, the films shown at the festival are not just documentaries in the classical sense, but also experimental explorations of archaeological topics. Films that present artistic perspectives on the topic are of course also included. The criteria according to which a selection jury will put together the final program will be both the scientific reliability and the cinematic quality of the productions. "
