Origin and history

Ciobănesc Românesc Carpatin means translated Romanian shepherd dog of the Carpathians . The breed was bred from a natural breed from the Danube region of the Carpathians, with the use as a working dog in the foreground. The first standard was drawn up in 1934 at the Romanian National Institute for Zootechnics and adapted in 1982, 1999 and 2001 by the Romanian Cynological Association. The breed was provisionally recognized by the FCI with the number 350 in 2005, and recognition took place in 2015.

description

The Ciobănesc Românesc Carpatin is a relatively large dog, but at the same time it should appear agile, vigorous and by no means heavy. His physique is rectangular. Males are significantly larger and stronger than females. The hair is harsh, thick and straight. The undercoat is dense and soft. The color is pale yellow or pale yellow with clouding, often lighter on the flanks and darker on the back. White markings are allowed but should not predominate.

The head is wolf-like, of medium length, strong but not heavy, with a broad and slightly arched forehead. The stop is moderate, neither too strong nor too weak. The snout is strong, oval in cross-section, slightly shorter than the skull. The lips are tight and close to the head. The eyes are almond-shaped and slightly slanted, dark brown in color. The ears are not particularly large, triangular, close to the cheeks and set a little above eye level.

Essence

The breed is described as calm and balanced. He is reserved towards strangers but by no means aggressive. Today the carpatin can be found more and more often as house, farm and family dog.
