The Circus Barum , from 1972 Circus Siemoneit-Barum , was a German circus and one of the largest travel circuses in Germany.

history

The circus was founded in 1878 by the East Prussian animal dealer Carl Froese in Königsberg as Barum's American caravan menagerie . After the death of Carl Froese in 1907, his daughter Helene took over the management together with her husband, the animal trainer Arthur Kreiser. In 1913 the Leipzig lion hunt took place in which six escaped circus lions were killed during a guest performance in Leipzig. From 1935 Margarete Kreiser-Barum, born in 1902 as the daughter of Helene and Arthur Kreiser, continued to run the family business. She successfully brought the circus through the years of World War II until the company was destroyed in a bomb attack in 1944. In 1946 Margarete Kreiser-Barum dared a new beginning and toured with a new Circus Barum until her death in 1970.

In 1972 Gerd Siemoneit-Barum bought the circus from the heirs of the circus director Margarete Kreiser-Barum. He showed his predator dressage until 2002 and remained senior ringmaster until the end. On September 15, 2008 it was announced that the circus would be closed at the end of October 2008. On October 26th, 2008 the last performance of the Circus Barum took place in Northeim. Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum and her company Barum & Bauer Performance GmbH took over part of the animal population and related employees . Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum has been presenting the “Circus Barum Christmas spectacle” in Göttingen since 2012 .

family business

The circus was run as a family business until its end. Gerd Siemoneit-Barum gave up his carnivore training in 2002 , but remained senior circus director until 2008. His wife Rosalind Siemoneit-Barum provided the music and choreography for most of the performances. His son Maximilian Siemoneit-Barum acted as circus director in the ring, daughter Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum led the program. Pierre Bauer (Switzerland), husband of Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum, also appeared as an aerial acrobat and the two children of Pierre Bauer and Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum took part in two appearances in the arena.

Data

The tent was 18 m high at its highest point and was supported by four masts, it held 2,000 visitors. Almost 40 people were responsible for setting up the tent.

This has now been taken over by the Circus Krone .

The music in the performance came from an eleven-piece live orchestra. The circus' winter quarters were in Volksen near Einbeck . This was sold to the Charles Knie circus in 2012 .
