Ciro Michele Esposito (* 1912 in Grottaglie ; † 1994 ibid) was an Italian ceramicist , designer and professor and founder of the ceramic school of Santo Stefano di Camastra .

Life

Born in Grottaglie, Ciro Michele Esposito studied ceramics at the art school in his city and perfected his training in Faenza , where he studied with Gaetano Ballardini . Immediately after completing his studies, he began working in ceramics factories in Grottaglie, experimenting with chemicals and oxides, and designing and producing art objects.

In 1936 he met Mór Korach , known in Italy as Maurizio Korach or Marcello Cora , with whom he developed a deep friendship. Other artists in his environment included Domenico Rambelli and Anselmo Bucci . In the early forties he was appointed director of the ceramics school of Santo Stefano di Camastra in the province of Messina, which under his direction, together with the Accademia di belle Arti di Palermo, became the most important technical school for ceramics in Italy. After his death, the Ceramics School Liceo Artistico Regionale - Ciro Michele Esposito was named after him.

Esposito had exhibited in Bulgaria, Germany (Frankfurt am Main, 1952) and the USA (New York, 1952). Further participation in national and international handicraft and ceramic exhibitions were in Monaco, Toronto and Naples.

Some of the ceramics made by Ciro Esposito, bearing the mark of manufacture, are now housed in the Ceramic Teaching Museum in Santo Stefano di Camastra.
