Attractions

The exact replica of the Ariane 5 can be seen from afar , which, like the real rocket, is 55 meters high. The Ariane towers over the 3.5 hectare park with 2000 m² of exhibition space. Since August 29, 2019, the park has also been home to a model of the Chinese lunar probe Chang'e-4 with its full-size rover Jadehase 2 , a gift from the manufacturing company China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation . On September 19, 2019, the official inauguration ceremony took place with Yang Baohua (杨保华, * 1962), the deputy director general of CASC responsible for lunar exploration.

In the main exhibition building, the development of space conquest can be discovered and the progress made in research can be followed. Interactive systems vividly show how satellites are built and deployed, how weather forecast works, how telecommunications make life easier and the pioneers in all these areas made their inventions. Models of Mir modules show the everyday life of the astronauts in every detail.

The main attractions include an IMAX cinema with a film shot by the astronauts on the ISS , a planetarium and a hemisphere in which, thanks to a three-dimensional video projection, one can travel into the past and follow the development of the earth from the Big Bang to the present.

The Cité de l'espace was realized by the city of Toulouse in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Culture, the French space agency CNES , EADS , ASTRIUM and many others.
