history

The cinema at the Center Français de Berlin was a multicultural facility that was used for cultural events, theatrical performances and film screenings. Free film screenings for a German audience were also regularly held here. After the withdrawal of the French troops, the Center Français de Berlin was rebuilt and reopened in 1994. Then from 1996 to 2007 it served as City Wedding with a focus on family films and art house , and Bollywood films that were shown occasionally found their regular audience. After that the cinema was closed for the time being. For a short time in 2009 the CFB opened again under the name Eiffel Tower Cinema . The operator of the center had the cinema hall renovated and used again as a cultural venue. On a web page listed closed Berlin cinemas the trained found movie theater - manager Anne Lake Mountain pointing out that management was looking for. After an on-site visit, she and Wiebke Wolter decided to apply.

Both women took care of a reopening, which took place on September 13, 2014 under the motto “Kiezkultur reloaded”. The new cultural facility was named City Kino Wedding . Initially, in a kind of test phase, selected films were regularly shown at low prices every two weeks until the end of 2014. Since January 2015, the cinema has been showing a selected Arthouse program every week from Thursday to Sunday .

In order to secure the number of visitors necessary for the preservation, Anne Lakeberg mainly organizes a colorful, selected film program, less focused on the latest films. Together with the restaurant there are also culinary film evenings . Smaller German film producers receive start-up help from them by holding world premieres. In addition to participating in the Berlinale, the Jewish Film Festival and the Arab Film Festival are also making a stop at the City Kino Wedding. The Favorite Films Festival takes place exclusively here, where the audience's favorites from international film festivals are shown. Wiebke Wolter left the facility in August 2019, so that Anne Lakeberg has been the sole operator ever since. She is supported by four part-time employees who take on ticket sales and other auxiliary work.
