James White (politician, 1792)

James White (born September 2, 1792 in Chester , New Hampshire , † 1870 in Belfast , Maine ) was an American lawyer and politician who was Maine State Treasurer from 1842 to 1846 .

Life

James White was born in 1792 to William White and his second wife, Elizabeth Mitchell. He had seven half-siblings and eight siblings.

White attended Dartmouth College and graduated in 1818. He studied law with his brother William White.

As a member of the Democratic Party , he was Maine State Treasurer from 1842 to 1846 and ran for a seat in Congress in 1862 and 1864 .

In 1832 he married Lydia Shaw Wood, with whom he had eight children. After her death, he married Hannah W. Cashmann in 1855. He died in 1870. His grave is in Belfast City Cemetery.
