Just L. Elwell

Eben Littlefield Elwell (born January 20, 1921 in South Brooks , Maine , † March 20, 2009 in Bath , Maine) was an American politician who was Maine State Treasurer from 1965 to 1966 .

Life

L. Elwell was born in South Brooks, Maine to Joseph Littlefield Elwell and Delia Roberts.

During the Second World War he worked in South Portland as a shipbuilder for the Liberty freighters . He was then a member of the Democratic Party in 1954 in the Maine House of Representatives and was Maine State Treasurer from 1965 to 1966. He was the first director of the Maine State Housing Authority from 1968 to 1971 and was Maine Mayflower Society governor in 1989.

In 1941, Eben L. Elwell married Rita Smith Elwell. They had a daughter, Ruth Alena Elwell. The daughter died in a traffic accident at the age of 16. He died in a Bath hospital in 2009. His grave is in the Rose Cemetery in Brooks.
