Neria Douglass

Neria R. Douglass (born November 16, 1952 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American lawyer and politician who was Maine State Auditor from 2005 to 2012 and the 50th Maine State Treasurer from 2013 to 2015 .

Life

Neria Douglass was born in Boston in 1952. She graduated from the University of Manchester , England, in 1973 , received her BA from Wellesley College in 1974 and a Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University in 1977 . She is admitted to the United States Supreme Court and United States District Court for the District of Maine. She worked as a public prosecutor and as a private attorney.

Douglass worked as an attorney for Raymond Isacson Attorneys at Law from 1985 to 1988. From 1980 to 1982 she was the assistant prosecutor for Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin Counties, and from 1980 to 1985 she was a member of the Lewiston Board of Appeals.

As a member of the Democratic Party , she was 1994-2012 City Councilor of Auburn , who owned the Senate of Maine from 1998 to 2004 on, was from 2005 to 2012 state auditor of Maine and 2013-2015 State Treasurer of Maine. She lost her election to Treasurer in 2014 to Terry Hayes .

Neria Douglass is married to Paul S. Douglass and has three children.
