Charles P. Hatch

Charles P. Hatch (born December 25, 1868 in Lyman , Maine , † July 11, 1946 ) was an American politician who was the first Maine State Auditor from 1907 to 1911 .

Life

Charles P. Hatch was born in Lyman, Maine to Elijah Hatch and Frances Kane. He attended the public schools in Portland . He later attended night school and went to college. He worked as a secretary for the law firm Mear and learned to shorthand during this time .

Hatch became a cashier and accountant in the office of the Maine Mutual Accident Association in 1887, and from 1889 he was assistant auditor with an office in Buckfield. In 1893 he was named Maine Bank Auditor. In 1903 he ended this activity and became an auditor and accountant for the International Paper Company of New York.

As a member of the Republican Party , he was the first Maine State Auditor and held this office from 1907 to 1911.

As a Freemason, he belonged to various lodges in Buckfield and Portland: the Knights Templar, the Kora Temple, the Mystric Shrine, the Maine Society of New York and others.

Charles P. Hatch married Helen Louise Morrill in 1892. He died on July 11, 1946 in Lyman. His grave is in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
