Robert W. Norton

Robert Warren Norton (born June 6, 1923 in Ramsey , Minnesota - † March 8, 2015 in Scarborough , Maine ) was an American soldier and politician who was a Maine State Auditor from 1985 to 1987 .

Life

Robert W. Norton was born to Henry L. Norton and Gladys L. Fuller in Ramsey, Minnesota. He grew up in Augusta , Maine and attended Cony High School. He graduated from Metropolitan High School in Los Angeles , California and studied at Gates Business College in Augusta, Maine.

Norton served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged from service. He then served as the Deputy Commander of the American Legion and Commander of the Disabled American Veterans . He also served as a military aide-de-camp with the rank of colonel for Governor John H. Reed . He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years .

As a member of the Democratic Party , he was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1980 to 1984 and a Maine State Auditor from 1985 to 1987.

Robert W. Norton married Doris B. Payson in 1946. They had two children. He died on March 8, 2015. His grave is in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
