Charles A. White

Charles A. White (born March 31, 1828 in Hallowell , Maine , † 1898 in Gardiner , Maine) was an American politician who was Maine State Treasurer in 1879 .

Life

Charles A. White was born in Hallowell, Maine to Ebenezer White and Mary Duganne.

In 1855, White was appointed Gardiner Postmaster by President Franklin Pierce . James Buchanan later renewed that appointment. He held this office until 1861. As a member of the Democratic Party , White was elected Treasurer of Maine in 1879. From 1886 to 1890 he was reappointed Gardiner Postmaster , this time by Grover Cleveland .

Charles A. White married Elizabeth R. Robinson in 1860. They had five children. He died in Gardiner in 1898. His grave is in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner.
