NG Hitchborn

Nathan Griffin Hitchborn (born May 29, 1818 in Prospect , Maine , † November 30, 1874 ) was an American businessman and politician who was Maine State Treasurer from 1865 to 1868 .

Life

NG Hichborn was born in Prospect, Maine to Henry Hichborn and Desiah Griffin. At the beginning of 1843 he founded a trading company and three years later he got into shipbuilding. In the early 1850s he campaigned for the construction of the Community Church in Stockton Springs. He became a Postmaster at South Prospect in 1855 and was elected to the Maine Senate in the same year . He campaigned for the division of Prospect and thus for the establishment of Stockton in 1857. After serving in the Senate, he became a member of the House of Representatives from Maine and from 1865 to 1868 he was Treasurer of Maine.

NG Hichborn was married to Caroline R. Hichborn. They had four daughters. Hichborn died in Prospect on November 30, 1874. His grave is in Mount Prospect Cemetery in Stockton Springs.
