Pascal P. Gilmore

Pascal Pearl Gilmore (born June 24, 1845 in Dedham , Maine , † December 5, 1931 ) was an American soldier in the Civil War and politician who was Maine State Treasurer from 1907 to 1910 .

Life

Pascal P. Gilmore was born in Dedham, Maine to Tyrrel Gilmore and Mary Wood Pearl. His father was a teacher who later bought and ran a farm in Dedham. He attended local schools and graduated from East Maine Conference Seminary at Bucksport . In 1861 he joined the Army of the Potomac and took part in the Peninsula Campaign . He then left the Army, but returned as a recruit to the Sixteenth Regiment of the Maine Volunteers. He was then a participant in every battle of his regiment and also took part in the skirmish at Appomattox Court House , the surrender of General Robert E. Lee . His corps was checked by Abraham Lincoln on March 25, 1865, Lincoln was killed in an assassination attempt three weeks later.

After the war he resumed his studies in Bucksport, teaching in the winter. From 1867 to 1871 he was active in the west, especially in Michigan . There he was busy inspecting and measuring wood. Due to his poor health, Gilmore returned to the east. He took over his parents' farm in Dedham and ran it until 1891. He also did legal advice and other work, and he was also involved in the production and trading of a wide variety of goods and goods. Pascal Gilmore was President of Bucksport National Bank and President of Bucksport Water Company since 1895 . In 1907 he became President of the Maine Insurance Company of Portland .

Gilmore was a member of the Republican Party . He was a long member of Dedham's Board of Selectmen and chaired it for nine years. He was Supervisor of Schools for 15 years. He was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1875 to 1883, and in 1891 he became a Senator in the Maine Senate for Hancock County . That year he was appointed State Liquor Commissioner by Governor Edwin C. Burleigh . He held the office until 1896. From 1907 to 1910 he was Maine State Treasurer.

Pascal P. Gilmore belonged to congregationalism . He was a Freemason in various lodges and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic .

Gilmore married Alma M. Hart in 1881. They had a daughter. He died on December 5, 1931, and his grave is in Brookside Cemetery, Dedham.
