Samuel A. Holbrook

Samuel Appleton Holbrook (born January 5, 1815 in Connecticut , † August 24, 1896 in Freeport , Maine ) was an American businessman and politician who was Maine State Treasurer from 1880 to 1884 .

Life

Samuel A. Holbrook was born in Connecticut to Samuel Holbrook and Hannah Webster. The family moved to Freeport, Maine, where Holbrook grew up.

In 1831 he opened a shop with William Gore in Freeport, which both operated together until Holbrook left the partnership in 1875.

As a member of the Republican Party , Holbrook was a member of the House of Representatives from Maine in 1863 and 1864, and in 1870 and 1872, and was elected to the Maine Senate from 1865 to 1867 and in 1874 and 1875 . From 1880 to 1884 he was Treasurer of Maine.

Holbrook married Emma Cushing Burr in 1850. They had two daughters, he died on August 24, 1896 in Freeport. His grave is in Woodlawn Cemetery in Freeport.
