Coordinates: 32 ° 3 ′  S , 115 ° 45 ′  E The City of Fremantle is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . Fremantle belongs to the metropolis of Perth , the capital of Western Australia. The area is 19 km² and has about 29,000 inhabitants (2016).

Fremantle is on the west coast on either side of the mouth of the Swan River about twelve to 17 kilometers southwest of Perth city ​​center . The seat of the City Council is in the Fremantle district on the south side of the river mouth, where around 8,200 people live (2016).

The Fremantle Council has 13 members, twelve Councilors are elected by the residents of the six wards (two each from North, South, East, City, Hilton and Beaconsfield Ward). The mayor (mayor) and council chairman is also elected by all residents of the city.
