Ciudad Nuclear is the name of a housing estate built between 1980 and 1992 about 9 kilometers south of the center of the Cuban city of Cienfuegos at the sea-side entrance to the large Jagua Bay . It was built as a residence for the Cuban and foreign workers and their families involved in the construction of the Juraguá nuclear power plant .

In connection with the planning for Cuba's first nuclear power plant near the city of Cienfuegos, planning also began for the accommodation of the construction workers and the later power plant employees. In 1976 the location for the settlement was determined: around five kilometers east of the power plant site. 1980 was the official start of construction. 4,200 apartments were planned, of which only a part was completed. The first apartments were handed over to their residents in 1981, and the settlement was officially inaugurated on October 13, 1982. It had numerous public facilities, including, for example, a polyclinic, which opened in 1987 and still exists today in a reduced form, or a cultural center that also still exists. With the suspension of power plant construction in Juraguá announced by President Fidel Castro on September 5, 1992 for cost reasons, the expansion of Ciudad Nuclear, which was directly related to the major project, was canceled, so that there are numerous ruins there. The residents of the settlement came from different parts of Cuba, until 1992 several hundred foreign technical advisers and trainers from the Soviet Union and partly from Bulgaria and other countries of the Eastern Bloc lived here.

In administrative terms, Ciudad Nuclear and the immediately northeastern settlement of Castillo de Jagua form the unit “Castillo-CEN” (CEN as an abbreviation for “central electronuclear”, Spanish for nuclear power plant), which belongs to the municipality of Cienfuegos. Ciudad Nuclear is connected to the city center of Cienfuegos by a passenger ferry that goes to several stations along Jagua Bay and takes around an hour for the entire crossing. The only land connection is a country road with little traffic that leads from Cienfuegos via the village of Juraguá and past the power station to the historic fortress "Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Jagua" (known as "Castillo de Jagua") at the entrance to Jagua Bay. Immediately to the east of the housing estate is the small Playa Rancho Club beach, a few meters south of it is Campismo Jagua, a holiday complex built on the bank of the bay entrance with overnight huts of simple standards.

The most prominent inhabitant of the Ciudad Nuclear settlement is the 2012 Olympic flyweight boxing champion, Robeisy Ramírez .
