Civil Defiance is an American progressive metal band from Los Angeles , California that was formed in 1989.

history

The band was formed in 1989. Together they developed the first songs, which resulted in the EP Abstract Reaction in 1991 . This increased the band's attention, especially in Germany . Nevertheless, the band could not reach a contract with a label, so they recorded their debut album The Fishers for Souls on their own. The album was released in the summer of 1996 on their own label Blood Orange Records. Shortly afterwards, the brothers Mike (drums) and Jenk Kent (bass), as well as guitarist Mike Kinney left the band, so that Gerry Nestler (vocals, electric guitar, piano) was the only member. The album again received a lot of attention in Germany, so reviews in rock hard and heavy, or what !? published. As a result, the band reached a distribution contract with Dream Circle Records for the album.

In spring 1997 the band went on a European tour together with Psychotic Waltz . The group now consisted of Gerry Nestler, drummer Gabe Trevizo, guitarist John Lisi and bassist Juan Perez. Since Trevizo left shortly afterwards and the band was again without a label, Gerry Nestler and Juan Perez dedicated themselves to another project called Philm (later also Kkleq Muzzil), in which Dave Lombardo was also active.

Then Andy Siry, employee at Nuclear Blast , became aware of Civil Defiance, so he started the band on his label Grind Syndicate Media . The album Circus of Fear was released on this label in 1999 .

style

The band plays Progressive Metal, which goes back to influences from different genres. In terms of sound, comparisons are made with bands like Watchtower and Anacrusis .
